They missed a huge opportunity to make this film animated, as opposed to live action. This could have made the Pretties look eerie, instead of placing a golden filter on the actors.

the books weren't perfect, but it's still wild that Netflix took a series that was basically like "how messed up would it be if narcissism ruled the world" and turned it into "which hunky boy will our heroine choose to kiss on"

Hahahaha so I’ve never seen this but when you showed “The Smoke” I realized it’s actually this ruin in Georgia that is part of a walking trail that my family and I go on all the time. It’s like ten minutes from my house. They film a lot of stuff in those woods and at those ruins, including The Hunger Games. So yeah, seeing it on there made me laugh. So I guess I’VE been to… the Smoke. 😂

In case anyone is curious, Dr. Cable is actually suppose to be a Special. Pretties and Specials represent different stages of surgical modification in the Society of the Pretties. Pretties undergo cosmetic surgery at 16, making them physically flawless but also altering their brains to be more carefree, shallow, and obedient, ensuring they remain content in their luxurious, party-filled lives. In contrast, Specials are elite enforcers chosen by Dr. Cable, modified to be stronger, faster, and more resilient, with sharp, angular features that make them appear almost inhuman. Unlike Pretties, Specials have enhanced mental clarity, but they are programmed to be ruthless and fanatically loyal to maintaining order. While Pretties are controlled through ignorance and pleasure, Specials are controlled through power and superiority, serving as the enforcers of the regime—until certain events in the series challenge their loyalty. When Tally chooses to undergo the Specials’ surgery in an effort to save Shay, she learns that Specials can regain mental clarity through self-inflicted pain, which helps her escape The Grid and save her friends/break the system.

Also, thank you for your hilarious review, Jaime! I love watching your videos. As a reader of the original series, I completely agree that this movie adaptation was hilariously bad. A lot of the changes they made really stripped away the original themes and depth of the story, which is a shame. I was never a huge fan of the series, but it’s still disappointing to see how poorly the adaptation turned out.
