We've been on a MAJOR Hoya houseplant kick here on 'Plant One On Me', but there was just so much good information that we couldn't fit into the last Houseplant House Tour, that it only felt right to follow up with another video.

If you missed the last Hoya videos, then take the time to check them out:

She made a good point about water roots. If you only let them get an inch or so long before planting in a substrate, they adapt to the change in media quicker than if the water roots have been allowed to grow long.

I fell in love with Hoyas after finding a 'Hindu Rope Plant' a.k.a. Hoya carnosa compacta, in a Home Depot over a decade ago. I was fairly new to house plants and mostly had a brown thumb. This plant far exceeded my budget for house plants, I had to have it! I lived in the Mid Atlantic region at the time and being a house plant, she never bloomed. However, I still adored her for the sheer beauty of her form and had to have more varieties!
Fast forward and I'm now living in southwest FL. I still have my Hindu rope, only she now happily lives outside and flowers profusely most of the year (right now she's almost covered in lovely, sweet smelling pink clusters!).
During the last hurricane, one of my variegated carnosas' that resided on a cement pedestal outside our front door was so large, I couldn't bring her in without destroying most of her as she had climbed up the brick facade of our house and had also rooted long tendrils all along the ground, not to mention she had to weight close to 50lbs! Long story short, she made it through, mostly unscathed except for the loss of a few tendrils. On a whim, I decided to place one of the tendrils (about a foot long) in the crotch of one of our live oak trees. My husband affixed a piece of plastic to hold roots in place and I stuffed it with orchid bark and sphagnum moss. Boy did that do the trick, her little lost 'arm' (I call her 'Amy') has gone crazy! She's climbing so fast I swear she gets longer every day! It's @ 18 months later and 'Amy' has been rewarding me with loads of flowers hanging from the huge tree limb she's chosen to clamber up. I'm so proud of her!
Just goes to show, given the epiphytic environment some varieties so crave, they will reward you graciously!

Thank You, for the information. I met my 94 year old aunt, my father’s sister on March 17, 2020 for the first time. Discovered through AncestryDNA that I had four sisters and two brothers, only three are still alive and I am the oldest. I had gotten cuttings from her Hoya. She suffered a stroke on March 18, and passed April 1, 2020. So I am determined to keep it alive.

My grandmother had hoya carnosa for as long as I can remember. After she passed away, me and mom split the hoya and this is what I remember my grandmother by. :) Really thankful for these hoya videos! 🙏 Now I just have to work on making my hoya bloom again! It's been a while since I last saw it with flowers

So glad to see more footage of her and her home tour. She is a wealth of knowledge and has a delightful personality... she is also me in 40 years!!! It was also nice to see your "New Yorker" interview on Millennials and their house jungles. Thanks again for all the time, work, and effort you put into posting all these videos. I'm a huge fan. Please keep them coming!

I really enjoy these video tours of peoples' homes. I found it really interesting that Torrill's home was so minimalistic (apart from her hoyas of course!).

Thank you so much, I really enjoyed that video with Torill, she is just amazing and such a wealth of information. I too was wondering about those long tendrils and if I should cut them off or just leave them, I did know about not cutting where there is a peduncle, I get so excited when I see my hoya's getting them. Once again a great video I super enjoyed watching it, hope you are having a good Easter weekend, thank you.

Thank you so much Summer! Your videos with Torill were both educational and enjoyable.
I am a Hoya lover too. I do not see many around by me. I do have 5 and hoping to get more.
I did propagate my Hoya Tricolor Carnosa Krimson Queen. It did take a long time to root. I put it in a wine glass full of fish tank water. I changed it twice a week. I just potted them up.
Happy Easter!

Thank you. That was very interesting as I’m collecting hoyas. I certainly don’t want to have a houseful, but they are my favorite because there are so many different species that are absolutely fantastic plants.

ANOTHER great hoya VLOG! Thank you so, very much, Summer for devoting so much time to the topic of hoyas! I've watched your home plant yours and know that you love hoyas very much. ANYONE can be goofy & silly or just plain stupid (whether an act or not!). I REALLY appreciate the seriousness with which you handle the many topics of your videos, etc.! For some reason, your attitude is one that doesn't seem to be shared by MANY other YouTubers. I find it much easier to learn the important info that you present in YOUR no nonsense manner than I can from the "antics" or whatever of some others. Thank you for sharing this follow-up to that wonderful hoya home tour in Stockholm! Take care!🌾💜
