I find it really good that guys like you are giving some love to the smallsword, since I live in a third world country, my first experiences with HEMA where with a smallsword, i litterally bought two old and worn olympic foils 25 dollars each since it was the cheapest thing I could buy, and was told I was good to go, so in places that don't have the opportunities to buy the most expensive and historically acurate sword, it helps a lot and opens oportunities

Great fight! For me personally it answers at least some questions.
I'm sure that there were social and strategic reasons for the historical transition to the smallsword/ spadroon from weapons that are generally considered superior. However, this video clearly shows that a smallsword is still a pretty formidable weapon. The victory for the guy with the sabre is by no means guaranteed.
