서울 올겨울 첫 대설주의보…"최고 7㎝ 더 온다"
The first heavy snow advisory for this winter was issued this morning for Seoul. The heavy snowfall overnight caught morning commuters and travelers off-guard, with heavier traffic and cancelled flights.
Our Lee Jeong-yeon went to go talk to some of these commuters.
For the first time this winter, a heavy snow advisory was issued in Seoul on early Monday morning, along with the cities of Yangpyeong, Namyangju, Hanam and Guri in Gyeonggi-do Province.
The nation's capital saw up to 5 centimeters of snow and Yangpyeong saw up to 10-point-5 centimeters.
(stand-up)
Heavy snow advisories are issued when there's more than 5cm of snow within 24 hours. Commuters this morning saw slower traffic, added to the already hectic Monday morning commute, due to the heavy snowfall overnight.

"The traffic was really heavy this morning. I think it took an hour longer to get to work. I live in Ilsan so I usually leave early, but it took so much longer today. It was a nightmare."

"The bus ride took longer so I was late to work today. I think almost everyone in the office was late."
(Kor)
"I woke up this morning and saw it had snowed. Plus it's a Monday, so I decided to take public transport and it took half an hour longer."
Commuters were not the only ones behind schedule today as many flights got delayed or cancelled due to the weather conditions.
More than 100 flights in total were delayed at Gimpo and Incheon airports. According to Korea Airports Corporation, 16 flights were canceled this morning at Gimpo Airport alone. The weather agency lifted the heavy snow advisory for the afternoon for Seoul, but it still remains in place in parts of eastern Gyeonggi-do Province and western Gangwon-do Province.
Police are on alert to guide drivers to alternative roads and the fire department is also on stand-by for possible accidents.
Drivers and pedestrians are also warned to stay cautious on the slippery road.
