Bro forgot to mention that on top of the move that gets stab always crits, it also never misses.

The fact that Skeledirge manages to be both a tank AND a sweeper is great and I definitely exploited it casually

It's clear that in this gen they purposefully tried to make all starters competitively viable

Quaquaval as a revenge killer that boosts speed with signature move + moxie, then baton passing the stat boots sounds pretty good

Quaquaval has amazing potential even with its mediocre speed at first, aqua step really gives it something good and moxie is just icing on the cake

Not to mention Meowscarada's signature move can never miss. So no amount of sand attacks or minimizes will stop you from being hit by it, & when you are, it's a crit

Quaxquaval would be a monster in competitive if baton pass wasn't banned, moxie plus its signature move increasing speed is just *chef's kiss*

They finally brought the 3 types to the games.

To that last question: IMO they are the exact opposite. None of them look like the Pokémon I want to have as "my best buddy/partner (for that game)" which there is at least one in every other gen for me.

One of my favorite strats (on showdown at least) is setting up a ninjask with double teams, then baton passing to legit any of these 3. They get the evasiveness buff, speed buff from ninjask's speed boost, and they get buffs from their own moves.

other starters which are good in competitive:
- Charizard: Solar power charizard was good, mega X and Y were great in singles and doubles, heavy duty boots definitely buffed charizard for lower tier play. in gen 8, it had one of the best gmax moves in the game
- Venusaur - access to sleep powder, chlorophyll ability, resistance to fairy, makes it a diverse and great pokemon. probably better in doubles tho
- Swampert - massive part of adv OU, came back in later gens as a swift swimmer as mega swampert. can run physically offensive sets or go for more bulky utility roles
- Blaziken - speed boost, and a great attacking and special attacking stat, made it an awesome pokemom
- infernape- mixed attacking stats and great movepool! high speed too, makes it a great pokem9n which could sweep your team if not countered quickly
- Serperior - honestly only good bc of contrary lol
- greninja - protean + battle bond?! amazing abilities!
- inceneroar - stab knock off, intimidate, snarl, parting shot, immune to prankster… a nightmare for vgc players haha
- scorbunny - pyroball spam + libero
- rillaboom - also more of a doubles mon, its a great terrain setter but grassy glide makes it a great revenge killer

Crazy how on top of insane offensive pressure, Meowscarada also has one of the best support move pools in the game; getting moves like Ally Switch which is super limited in distribution.

I find that the starter’s final evolution other typing to be good against what it was weak to really really cool.

Grass/dark
Vs Vs
Fire/ghost
Vs Vs
Water/fighting

Imagine its a closed circle back to grass

Skeliderge just ANNIHILATES when you attach a Quick Claw to it to chain heavy damaging combos if you use any special attacks after Flame Song.

A good setup for skeldrige is flame charge, torch song and overheat and boom you got 2 moves that increase your special attack and speed and then a move that is hella powerful

It’s awesome that they can hit backwards too. Like Skeledirge hits Meowscarada Fire Grass but the opposite is true with Dark hitting Ghost.

Flower Trick got me through the game 😅

Well you can help with meowscaradas typing because of its special ability protean (I know it’s been nerfed but listen) it works when the Pokémon enters a battle once so you have to switch it back out (I think), so having this Pokémon with greninja and cinderace and you got an elemental destroying machine

Should also mention that Meowscrada can have the ability Protean which can change its type to the type of the first move it uses when entering the fight. It can be good for certain scenarios you’re in.

Plus you can give skeledirge throat spray. This lets him use torch song to set up really quickly. Then you just sweep with shadow ball
