In this video, I provide an overview of the Barry Harris Major Scale Rules for improvisation. The purpose of these rules is to help us come out rhythmically in the "right places" during improvisation. I demonstrate how to use the rules and suggest ways to practice them to develop phrases. I also discuss the importance of having chord notes fall on the beat and provide several examples showing what to practice and how to build your own phrases.

Another ‘aha’ moment for me Shan. The clarity of your teaching style tends to spark a realisation that I simply must have missed in a previous lesson. Just proves that you can teach an old dog new tricks :) Thanks

Descending from 7, just put the b6 in immediately and there’s no need for the extra notes at the bottom. You end up on the 1

Bebop scale? I heard that drives Barry nuts to call it that...but in reality that's kinda what it is lol

Grammar: "number" of notes, not "amount." Look up number versus amount. Love your videos.
