This is the first video that Ive seen, and I've been already convinced to get a lynda subscription some day soon, this is better than anything on YouTube or Google.

Excellent video and good production of it. Helped me understand the microphones better, thank you!

Great video, using phantom power with a ribbon is almost always fine though because the mic will have a balancing transformer or amplifier at it's output. The phantom power current will not get through!

Amazing video! One small point, condenser microphones vary capacitance between the backplate and the diaphragm, while charge is held constant.

Excellent overview!  Very concise.  Nice to see, for a change.

Explained absolutely perfectly.
Awesome video.
I never knew anything about rib and Mike's.
At times I use an h4n zoom pro recorder.
It has the two built-in condenser mics on the top.
Do you know if those are powered by default ?
Thanks. Keith

Odd. Ribbons usually have the least hi frequency response of the three.

So with a ribbon mic how do you get the sound out? Just hook to an xlr cable and it works?

Some of this is accurate. Some of this, not so much.

The diaphragm of a SM58 is definitely not metallic. Otherwise a nice video.
