Israeli Protests Intensify over Netanyahu Gov’t Weakening Judiciary as Palestinian Rights Ignored

Workers across Israel are taking part in a general strike Monday to protest plans by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to disempower Israel’s judiciary. This comes after Netanyahu fired his defense minister, Yoav Gallant, on Sunday over Gallant’s warning that the judicial overhaul represents “a clear, immediate and tangible threat to the security of the state.” Hundreds of thousands of Israelis have taken part in protests in recent days, shutting down large parts of the country and demanding the government withdraw its plan, which would give parliament more power to appoint judges to the Supreme Court and overturn its rulings. The Supreme Court is one of the few independent checks on the Israeli government, and critics warn Netanyahu’s judicial reforms would turn the country into a dictatorship. For more on the political crisis, we speak with journalist and activist Haggai Matar in Tel Aviv.

Israel a “secular democracy”? How many Palestinians have succeeded in the legal fight for their rights in Israel’s judicial system?

Good to see their people have power. Too bad they’re only concerned w/ themselves and don’t actually care about justice and human rights.

Democracy is worth peacefully fighting for.
In the past, nowadays and in the future.

Anyone curious on this conflict please research the Balfour Declaration where the British announced in 1917 that Palestine will be a new home for European immigrants. The British then occupied Palestine, or "Philistine" in Arabic, for 30 years while they dismantled our infrastructure and farms. Then in 1947-1949 over 520 Palestinian villages were destroyed and removed to make way for Apartheid Israel.

These people aren't protesting for democracy or equality of rights, they care for their rights for their specific religion. They couldn't care less about Palestinians. My family was filmed by Canadian News and I uploaded the statements made by the IDF solider. His words speak for itself.

Netanyahu wants to be king. He wants to change the state from Democracy to a kingdom. Democracy is for the people and the kingdom is for his own power.

Keep the momentum. Don't let anyone plant seeds of doubt in this movement. The demonstrations are 101% justified!

Netenyahu's next step would be to criminalise protest. The path of authoritarian governments is they eventually come for you.

They must oust Netanyahu. He may back down for the moment but his agenda will remain and he will seek another way to do what he wants to do. He is a bad Apple.❤️🗽🇮🇱

The international community has never held illegal apartheid Israel responsible for whatever crimes they have committed and committing since inception. The Palestinian issue is not part of this ongoing crisis though it's good to hear aspects of Palestinian issues are somehow being included.
