Apple killed the iPhone 4S

While support is typically a good thing it should never come at the cost of performance, and especially not at the level iOS 9 hurt the iPhone 4S.

For those of you with an iPhone 4S- if it works for you, that's great! I'm not saying the 4S is completely unusable, because it's not. But the fact remains that it's much slower on iOS 9 than it should've been, and sticking it with iOS 8 just would've made more sense. That said, I do want to hear what you all think- did iOS 9 kill the 4S?

Two months ago, I've downgraded from iOS 9.3.5 to iOS 8.4.1 on my 4S, and jailbroke it.

- Battery life increased in over 300% when the phone is idle (seriously).
- No more constant hangs on everything.
- It doesn't start to get excessively hot again.
- If I want to have an iOS 6/7 experience, all I need to do is open CoolBooter tweak, for dualbooting.

If you have an 4S, just do it... With caution, of course.

Hey Josh, to be honest I wouldn't have guessed that you're only 17-18. You seem older. I thought you were like 23.

They kill their old phones to force you to buy another one

I was stuck with the 4s until just last week. It was horrible and painful. iOS 9 made it super slow. Thankfully I have the 6s now and I love it. I hope iOS 12 doesn’t ruin it 😖

As a former 4s user, this video is 100% correct. It is not a usable phone with iOS 9.

I loved the design of the 4S. Looks amazing. That glass back and pure white can't be beaten.

Just a feedback: That music in background is super distracting

I love my 4S. I have it on iOS 6 and it’s beautiful. Except the power button broke...

I’ve got an iPod Touch running iOS 1.1.5 still. It was given to me by my dad’s girlfriend.

My mom still uses an iPhone 4. Refuses to upgrade.

After iOS 7, it all changed for the worse from there.

I feel they did the same thing to the 5s :(

Using the phone with 6.1.3. Its an excellent iPod now. Battery lasts for two three days without a SIM card. iOS 9 needed to charge every 3 hours.

I had the 4S until September last year. It was really annoying bc I couldn’t install most apps

One of my issues is Apple doesn’t allow you to downgrade to previous versions (at least beyond a certain point). I would have a lot less issues with their update policies if they allowed you to downgrade more.

Or at the very least, widen the net of firmware versions that are allowed to include iOS versions of the last few years.

In fact, I hesitate to update iOS to the newer versions because of this, not until some time have passed (I stayed on 10.3.3 mainly because of the horror stories of iOS 11).

I have one of these around and you’re right: it is ridiculously slow. Still, it makes for a good music player. I keep it pluged into the wall socket and into some decent speakers and it streams internet radios all day without a care in the world.

FANTASTIC Video. My iPhone 4s has been my daily driver since 2012, after the Palm Pixi. "Upgraded" from a 16GB to a 64B model a few years back. Yes, iOS 9.3.5 can be slow but bearable. Must have patience like a saint to use it. But even on an older 3G Sprint connection, it streams music like Rocky Balboa in his prime. LOL. When the SE 2 comes out, that will be my upgrade. And even then, will be using the 4s as a music device. Can't let all those accessories go to waste!
