I would consider buying this for the utility and use, but its still to thick for me. I will eagerly wait for the next version and hope the form factor, weight and thickness will have improved alot then :)

well they said that it is faster than most of the laptops available in the market, so im not really sure if u can call that a basic performance laptop, and plus this is ultra portable

Surface pro is exactly like pen and paper, its just digital. The only difference I found was that you need to carry lots more books and stationary. The pen is pressure sensitive so writing is almost like writing on paper albeit does take a little to get used to. I've been using one note and I can just upload lecture notes and scribe right on them, print them out, annotate them, add screen clippings and so much more than pen and paper just can't facilitate.

It is indeed expensive, but the point is you are really buying a 10 point touch pressure sensitive laptop with usb 3.0 (pretty standard) that is more portable than any ultrabook on the market with specs on par with an ultrabook. Think of it like that and 1300 is a pretty reasonable price considering what you are actually getting. Try adding your macbook air and an ipad, thats what the surface is then compare the price.

i would say a lot less, cuz this one is like only 1.6 or 1.7 ghz, but yeah, all manufacturers tends to over price there products so that later on when a new product comes out, they can discount it and still make profits

you obviously haven't used the surface pro. The ipad definitely has its productivity... but this is a whole different league. I am a Uni student and I use my surface pro for computational suites such as matlab and pspice and the wonderful thing is, it functions just like a normal PC unlike the ipad which runs on apps that are available in the store. Onenote and the stylus for surface pro is the most intuitive tool for use in lectures and general work in my experience.

899 is a reasonable amount. your forgetting this practically a laptop/ultrabook.
you can run full windows programs, with no limitations!
if you want to compare oranges with oranges, the the Note is comparable to the surface RT, which is $500.

I've had a 500$ windows laptop since 2007.So what about the price?
Touch screens on laptops are dumb?How so?
For graphics designer this is probably their dream machine.It's powerful, portable and has an active digitiser(big plus).
This is pretty much a convertible.It's a tablet with the functionality of a laptop.

Apple revolutionized the way we used tablet thats why i give it props but nothing beats samsung Note 10.1. The stylus just adds much more to the tablet experience. I can write notes on it just like on paper and its perfect.
But would love to try out the microsoft tablet as well as soon as they drop the price to a reasonable amount.

Dell Venue 11 Pro looks just as good, and has 2 different keyboard attatchments. One keyboard attachment turns it into a laptop basically which in my opinion is better because of the viewing angles. Dell Venue 11 Pro is only $499 compared to Surface 2 which is $899!

Surface Pro 2 is basically an ultrabook that can be used as a tablet as well. You don't install APP for youtube, facebook on your apple iMac don't you? You can install any games like World of warcraft, League of legends, Steam, etc into surface pro 2. It is a laptop that can be used as a tablet.

Now that the battery life has improve a little its a tad more intriguing! Just still feels like one of those eh products, If i wanted a decent desktop id get a desktop same with an tablet. It just seems like more like a netbook which was just a gap filler in the first place!

Surface RT cannot compete with the ipad as of now, there are just too little applications. Office and driver capability may give it an edge, but what's most important is the application support.

So yea, i agree with you about having to go pro instead of RT.

Surface pro > ipad > RT as of now i guess
