FYI reverse likely isn't synchronized, so rather than trying to force it, hold moderate pressure against it and very slowly let up on the clutch. It should pop into reverse once the clutch starts to reengage.

Try pushing down on the shifter to get it into reverse. It sits in a little cup made of nylon.

I had a 68. Great cars. Are you sure you don’t need to push down / in on the stick to get it into reverse? They had a lockout so you didn’t hit reverse instead of 1st.

they have no power steering, that's why the wheel is big to increase leverage and also why it takes so much movement to get it to turn as being a manual rack it's geared like that. Bushings will not help. Balljoints and perhaps a wheel alignment may help a small amount, but with a manual rack, it's probably the best you're going to get.

Put some more air in the front tires. Always helps, I don’t think bushings will help, you need to grease the trunnions. For starters. Good luck. X.
