Robert Downey RETURNS To The MCU As Doctor Doom In Avengers: Doomsday | Comic Con 2024

Marvel returned to Hall H at San Diego Comic Con 2024 with the announcements of not one, but two new Avengers titles. Avengers: Secret Wars is due to release in May of 2027, an all new logo revealed after the cast of upcoming MCU projects like Captain America: Brave New World and Fantastic Four regaled Hall H with news a costumes. Kevin Feige and crew also announced Avengers: Doomsday which is slated for 2026.

In one of the most shocking twists of MCU history, Iron Man himself Robert Downey Jr. was announced as Doctor Doom as Doom Bots took the stage. Wearing a Doctor Doom mask, RDJ responded with signature cool to fan fervor at the reveal, shrugging “New mask, same task. What can I tell ya? Downey Jr. refers to his longtime role as Tony Stark, the Iron Man who’s story came to a bittersweet close with Avengers: Endgame in the Infinity War Saga.

The Marvel Hall H panel featured many more MCU stars: Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Anthony Mackie and many more, with surprises covered by IGN live at SDCC 2024.
