This is very interesting because it reminds me of the Archie Chaos Emeralds. Before there were only seven, there were thousands throughout the planet Mobius, and all of them were green. The other colors came from other planets and star systems. Sonic used six red emeralds and they made a Super Sonic separate from Sonic himself that was completely power crazy *(basically, Super Sonic from Sonic the Comic)* .
