The Makkah Royal Clock Tower pushes engineering to the extreme.

Purchase shares in great masterpieces from artists like Pablo Picasso, Banksy, Andy Warhol, and more.

This video depicts a different on-site health and safety and labour culture to the one that many of our viewers will be familiar with and that we at The B1M advocate for. We acknowledge this, and have made the editorial decision to bring you the footage to tell the extraordinary engineering story of this project.

Who could have guessed the working conditions would be deadly and the "employees" would be unpaid.

The building looks like something you would find in Las Vegas casino resort

Bold of you to assume people who watch a channel on construction haven't heard of a tall building.

Having to convert to a religion just because of work is crazy

As an avid skyscraper enthusiast, I knew of this project pretty early on in construction. The fact it's something like seven towers all together with them all being very tall is just massive, not to mention the clock that dwarfs all. I thought the complex had over 7, 000 hotel rooms or something equally insane but makes sense when they'll be busy for the Hajj.

As a Muslim and an Arab, I'm against the BS conversion of those engineers to Islam...it makes us look bad, and it's not a genuine conversion.

The Arabs love building giant vanity projects

I'm surprised that you don't mention the actual gripe muslims have with this tower, that it is taking away the focal point from Kabaa, and that it's seen as materialism and opulence towering over religiosity/spirituality.

I can tell you that most Muslims don't like this building, and for a good reason. On one hand you have people wearing nothing but black and white sheet of clothings symbolizing earthly detachment and then you look up and see this gold-plated montrosity just towering over them.

I can appreciate the technical challenges met and overcome and the brilliance of those on the project. Aesthetically though, it is just dreadful

Tallest building in Asia = tallest building in the world (both Dubai and KSA are in the continent of Asia)

The tower looks like it belongs more in Las Vegas than in Mecca
