Great camera work but you have to take into to account that these are two different cameras and the price range as well. The CX 405 is still the best value in its price range.

Nice review, but for the money, the 405 is a contender in the entry level units. For what the AX43 costs, I would go with Panasonics VX981. Better price, great 4K features and is a workhorse. Thanks.

From what I can conclude, the AX43 has superior image quality. It has better image saturation.
Surprisingly CX405 is somewhat better at recording the audio.
Neither camera is equipped with a "wind-remover" feature, which was available on my antiquated Panasonic NV-GS35

Great points. I would like the 4K camera to replace my HD Sony camera but the price is a little too much at the moment. I am still impressed by the zoom on the smaller camera if you do not zoom fully.

I also have the HDR-CX405 and I know what kind of quality it produces. well it is an old camcorder. You can just pick it up and shot. Only thing I really miss on it is external microphone not able to use on it. That is really the only thing I wish it had.

Thank you so much! Your footage comparison actually helped me make up my mind not to buy the CX series.
CX series can be a decent camcorder, but what I wanted was better clarity so I should stick with the AX series.

I have a Sony AX53 which is essentially an AX43 but with a less expensive zoom (about 5X). At this point, it would be nice if Sony would provide a firmware upgrade. The AX43 and variants should be able to record in a LOG color mode to make it easier to match to other cameras.
