Anno 1404 Beginners Guide Walkthrough Gameplay Example Part 1

A look at Anno 1404 from a beginner's point of view. This is a gameplay example or tutorial, showing beginners by way of a walkthrough how the game is played. The idea is to provide basic step-by-step instructions on how to start playing this sort of game. If you want to know how to 'win', well, you'd better play it - a lot! ;)

No advanced techniques are used (not that I know many) - the idea is simply: how do you get started with this game? There are lots of options, and it all seems very open-ended at first.

This video includes a brief introduction to trading with ships (with one ship, in this case).

POSTING SCHEDULE
This depends in part on whether I have had time to record videos in between going to work and living the rest of my life! Usually it runs like this:
- Sat or Sun: a vlog or sightseeing video at midday (UK time).
- Gameplay videos: pretty random - typically at midday on weekdays, but not all the time.
- If I have something extra to post it usually appears at some random time :) I may livestream occasionally too.

Heh. Well, I've watched some by advanced players, and (typically) they're really not slow enough or simple enough for complete beginners. I know the basic idea of these games, and can go through the steps without getting too technical or skipping some of the simpler concepts. Some people have never played any sort of game like this before and really can't get started. You can see by the comments that people are finding the videos helpful. I am not trying to 'win' in these, just getting started.

I thank you very much for this tutorial. I looked up online which Anno game to start with and people suggested 1404. Next thing I know the tutorial guy Lord Northburgh is telling me to build peasant houses and they need to get quick access to the market place. So I built them right next to the Marketplace. Then I'm asked to lay down roads but there is no SPACE between the Marketplace and the houses I just built. Then I built two Woodcutter Huts (they might be called differently) right next to a forest...2 seconds later I'm asked to demolish them because they are not optimally placed. No clue given as what optimal means here. At this point I realized that this game has some very old ground rules that new players are not informed of. Your tutorial was helpful, thank you for the upload.

EDIT: The market warehouse's need to be connected, by road, only to the things that provide supplies, i.e. wood huts, hemp farms, weavers and such, They magically connect to the other warehouses on this island. (cool trick there!). And it saves both money and farm space!

Yep, I like the music - they went to the trouble of having a composer come up with unique music for the game - classical music - but it suits the game fine, and it plays well by itself too (although most tracks are quite short).

Population is always displayed at top-left of the mini map.

You don't need roads connecting every building. For example, small markets don't need connection via roads to the warehouse.

Thanks for the tutorial it helped me understand just the basics. Have played this types of games before and when i started this game i was so confused how it worked because i started up the "Anno 1404:Venice" and it dosen't have a tutorial at all... But this tutorial got me to anderstand the mechanichs and thats whas what i needed. Thanks again.
