Only thing worse than a snowsuit under your costume was a jacket over it 😭 #halloween #wisconsin

Omg, it was the same in New England. Luckily my mom was handy with a sewing machine and made nude body suits to go underneath. I was a toasty Princess Jasmine one year.

I'll never forget the halloween where I had to sit with my aunt waving a blow dryer on low on my face because my fairy face makeup was frozen on. LOL

My junior year of high school I moved to Upstate New York. I was ready though, I had a plan!!! I decided to be a flapper and went to the secondhand store with my grandma and we found this enormous faux fur coat for me to wear. I looked amazing and I was toasty warm. I was literally wearing a little slip dress and stockings but the coat reached the ground and was so oversized on me my friends were frequently hugging me under the coat and having someone else button them in there with me lmao. my dad wore it to drive me to school the next day because he couldn't find his coat and it was still in the mud room. I've worn a lot of costumes around that coat since then, it was a great investment

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest where it pretty much always rained on Halloween night I have a distinct memory of being dressed as a present. I was wearing a giant box wrapped in Christmas paper with a bow on my head. My mothers solution to the rain was to cover the entire box in Saran Wrap.

The anxiety is/was real. Worst possible outcome in my childhood! 😂

YUP! We have the pictures with snowsuits under/jackets on. And you went out the weekend BEFORE Halloween in the afternoon. Imagine my shock when moving somewhere warmer and not only did they trick or treat ON Halloween AT NIGHT but kids were wearing ballerina costumes and not a coat in sight.

Yep, as Oregonians we know the pain. If it was dry, it was super cold, and if it was warmer, it was raining. I designed so many costumes to accommodate or incorporate jackets, sweaters, rain coats, etc. as I got older as a result of my childhood disappointment. My sister even found an old fur coat at the thrift store one year and went as a Titanic passenger.

We ALWAYS made our costumes too big so we could wear layers to go trick or treating😂😂😂 there is no age limit to it where I am so we fully went until we were like 17 since there wasn’t much else to do and we wanted the free candy.
Best costume my brother did was the listerine guy because he could BUNDLE up and that year it was snowing and SO cold I almost got frostbite in my princess costume ( I only had thin gloves on, BIG mistake)

Canadian prairie girl here. Some years the snow was knee deep by Halloween…basically any day after about October 25 without snow is a good day.

1991 Halloween Blizzard...I was a bride in a white dress (great costume for a blizzard and snowbanks 2x taller than the kiddos). Had so many layers, I totally looked like the Michellin Man😅

Growing up in Canada.. i felt this in my soul! One year my mom made my "Little Mermaid" costume by taking a beige turtleneck and gluing a shell bra on top. The bottom half was made from an old pair of green snowpants, sewed into the shape of a tail. 😂

1) This is also true for New England

2) Rubies costume company released some American Girl costumes for adults (not as good quality as the old Pleasant Co. dresses probably were) and I’m going as Samantha this Halloween! I bought the wig to go with the dress. I can also rewear the dress another year (possibly with a pinafore) and can go as Anne of Green Gables too because I’m a redhead.

I remember one year I was a genie which was shiny purple hammer pants/parachute pants, a purple long sleeve cropped top that i wore in a ballet recital and ballet flats that my mom painted silver with purple glitter
This was one of my favorite costumes so when it snowed almost a foot of snow, refused to cover my costume so I put on a bodysuit that I wore in dance class so my stomach wouldn’t be bare but I would not wear different shoes. Our neighborhood was decently big but all of our houses sat on about 3-4 acres so they were pretty spread out. My mom packed snow boots and socks in a bag and between every house, I changed into them to walk around and then changed back into my ballet slippers before walking up to the houses. Halloween has always been my very favorite holiday.

I feel the same as a parent now 😂 I usually try to find under layers for my kids and hats/gloves that blend in with their costumes!

Always got costumes a size up to layer under the costume. Sometimes it worked great and sometimes it was pretty ridiculous 😂
