What was the need to replace the terms 'financial year' and 'assessment year'? Once understood, these terms were simple in themselves. 'Tax year' and 'Previous year' must also be understood. Instead, agricultural income beyond 12 lakhs should be brought under the tax net. This will increase the business and professional income tax in real terms. The governments are only after the salaried taxpayers which is a small part of the professional and business taxpayers who evade taxes by showing a better part of their income into fake agriculture income which is tax-free.

To,
The Honorable Finance Minister,
Government of India
12-Jan-2025

Subject: Appeal for Long-Term Capital Gains Tax Exemption for Senior Citizens

Respected Madam,

I write to urge the government to consider providing a long-term capital gains tax exemption for senior citizens as part of its commitment to social responsibility. After a lifetime of contributing to the nation's progress, elderly citizens deserve financial security and reduced tax burdens to sustain their post-retirement years with dignity.

Such a measure would not only acknowledge their contributions but also ensure they are not financially strained in their later years. I sincerely request your kind attention to this matter and urge you to include provisions for long-term tax relief for senior citizens in the upcoming financial policies.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Santanu Ganguly
