I found James's music early last year and ended up with him in my top 5 artists on Spotify Wrapped for last year! Grapes is such a banger, but tbh I love all the music he's released so far (Car Lights and Wake Up being two of my favs)

You're kinda spot on with the "people make promises when they're young they don't realize aren't viable later" thing. Paraphrasing here so I might not be totally right, but I think he explained this song as being two people who start dating as teens and stay together long-term assuming it's perfect since they don't have any other frame of reference. As adults it starts to strain until one of them (the girl in this case) finally cracks and realizes it's far from perfect and there must be something better out there, while the guy is kind of trying to convince her to stay. Grapes are better in September (a fun fact apparently), but if you only ever have the ones from June you might never know that.

Also yeah, Ash sighting! Him and James are best friends. Iirc, James has said was kinda going to make a much more plain video for this song and Ash was like "No, fuck that, let's go" and they ended up filming this instead lol. Cool to see you checking out his music, it's such a vibe. Sorry for rambling!

You should definitely check out more of James’s songs they are amazing. But I think you should also check out SIX the musical since you liked Hamilton SIX is kinda like it but it’s about Henry VIIIs wives and if you did end up watching it I recommend the animatics as they cover both the speaking parts of the musical and the songs since there is no professional recording of it yet
