French and German leaders pay tribute to World War One fallen

French President Francois Hollande and his German counterpart Joachim Gauck pay emotional tributes to the millions of soldiers who died during World War I, exactly 100 years after Germany declared hostilities against France.

The presidents of France and Germany have met on a mountain that saw some of the worst fighting of the First World War, in a solemn commemoration of the outbreak of war 100 years ago.

In a moving show of friendship between former enemies, Presidents Francois Hollande and Joachim Gauck embraced before the cameras on Hartmannswillerkopf mountain in Alsace, where more than 30,000 French and German soldiers died in World War One.
