That is a great point, cups with attendants deserve closer inspection ☺️

I almost feel stressed out because of lack of experience. Only two years ... Lots of rain but they do bring in pollen... I added a super to each, trying to get drawn comb .. I brought up some frames of nectar and mixed with frames with foundations .. hoping they draw but not drone comb I guess... too much ignorance or now .. I only have two hives. the second one I made with a walk away last year...

I'm in central AR, but I like to call it swarm city right now. I totally here what you are saying about genetics. I have come to the opinion that nucs and packages that you get are bees that are bred for brood production and I totally get that because they are in the business of selling bees. For me as a hobbyist I want a bee that builds up slower and manages their resources during winter. I have a batch of different queens coming in next month and I am going to graft off of them for what I hope will be a good bee for me. The start of this year has been frustrating due to the fact that I have already made splits, equalized, added boxes to give them more room and I am still fighting swarming. We've had a great start to spring here and the pollen is pouring in and I would rather have it that way than the latter. We'll see how it goes, I'll say a prayer for all of us! 😂 Enjoyed the video!

Last year I moved my apiary to a new area... It has Basswood (Linden), that plant makes so much nectar I had to split by taking 1 frame of brood from each of my 4 hives, replacing it with empty drawn comb. And they still were a little swarmy after that, but I did manage to keep em in the boxes. This year I'm gonna have to be more watchful, with the number of hives I plan to go to.

It is that crazy time of year. I’ve had to split some in my production yard but still have some time to feed them up. Ready for a heavy flow. Appreciate the video.

I have been grabbing frames of bees and brood and evening out the hives but I have two hives that just out running my efforts. I will try splitting but I suspect they are going to swarm anyway. Your video is very informative and much appreciated. Have a great season

Thank you for showing us your beekeeping journey. Do you think it would be easier to manage your bees if you ran all deeps.

I enjoy watching your videos. I’m not sure about wanting slower bees. I want as many bees as I can get to either make more hives or sell more nucs. Everybody does it different. Swarm control is a fine line.

Good luck keeping those swarms under control. Looks like you guys are a little farther along than we are in Indiana.

As many ways as there are beekeepers...ha, ha, ha!! Ain't that the truth!! I used several methods to try to prevent swarming. Still have a long way to go until they're satisfied with staying home....

Have the same management plan of holding off on the exclude r until later. I assume you are making sure eggs are on both sides of the double screen board since you don't know where the queen is (sorry if I missed it)?

Does the smaller boxes as a standard speed you times up time scales because the have less space per frame to have to fill? Your paint didn't like that metal sheeting, how long ago did you paint them? There is a "chalk board paint" I was thinking of painting the inside on my outer lid, gota check to see if it'll be safe to use yet. Did you have fun showing the bees at school? :) bet it was a fin day :) Looks like it'll make a nice split. Those double screen boards are an awesome tools. Ty, Blessed Days...

Thanks for the video. It looks like your definetly going to hit your expansion goals this year. I know you want to do it after the honey flow but seems like the bees have other plans.
Are you seperating the queen from the queen cells?

I have read and seen some discussion about one of the potential down sides of walk away splits or OTS splits it that if the bees choose to start a 3 day old larva as well as a 1 or 2 day old larva that the 3 day old larva could be an inferior queen yet kill the younger cells and survive because it will emerge first. What is your perspective on this?

I'm interested in a tutorial on drawn comb (e.g., how to acquire it, prep it, store it, etc.). If you already did a video on this, could you please post the link and title?

Does it matter which side the top inner cover notch is facing?

You must of had quite a stack of double screen dividing boards. I've only got two - maybe I'll make some more after watching you. How is the swarm catching going? Must be getting close to prime time for you in TN.
