We recently got hold of the new BG Fortress consumer unit, Rick was testing it out and was getting annoyed when his hands kept getting stuck. Luckily BG have a solution. The consumer unit comes with a handy tool for holding the lid open whilst you're working within.

Why the door not go open downward or left/right? Why not CU place into the wall near entrance door same box outside for DNO?

BG know their market, the only people installing them are the people who can't work out how to hold a cover up.

I made up a piece of steel rope with a rare earth magnets each end. Similar to the one unilite sell for an extortionate price.
It's worked on all metal db's so far. Just loop it back around the strap of my tool bag 👍.

Been doing that with a screwdriver for years

Did they deliberately design the lid so badly that they can then sell you this as an extra just to make it usable?
It would be more useful if they redesigned the lid to open beyond 90 degrees so you can actually see under it without having to lie on the floor if the board is mounted below waist height.

I have the opposite problem at home. It's plastic, and the lid flops downwards. I am using bluetac to keep it up, but when the weather gets hot, it just flops right back down again.

It's great for these young sparks who always have their phone in one hand.

Yeah! Why should there be a door??We dont have that on the continent, only in big buildings and swaying to the right..Or also to the left if its a double cabinet.

Can't say I have ever needed two hands to turn on a breaker.. I use the other to hold the lid up.. The idea of the lid automatically closing is to create a fire barrier with the plastic OCPD's.. This defeat mechanism is probably not a good idea... Just my opinion, I can see an advantage like if you need to hold it up and write down the circuit details on an EICR but feel like its inventing a solution to a problem that doesn't exist..

What is the point in this when you can just use one hand to hold it up and the other hand to flip the switches ? In my opinion this is useless

You mean you couldn’t hold it to flip the switch
