Why won't the usual eigen algorithm work here? After finding the eigen values, I'm supposed to minus each one from all three diagonal entries, then find the null space of that modified matrix, and the null space will be the eigen vector, right? However, in this case there IS NO nullspace because the three columns are independent, so how on earth do you use the usual eigen algorithm???

solve 3x3 matrix for eigen values, with a non zero elements. If you use 0 in 1st row itself, then you won't get a cubic equation.
