Setting up a multi camera stream or broadcast has always been complicated and expensive…until now! I recently got the Blackmagic ATEM Mini and it’s been a huge help for live streaming, podcasting, and teaching my high school digital media classes on line.

I wanted to share why I think this is such an awesome tool and show you how I incorporate it into my workflow every day.

"This video is sponsored by me and my paycheck" is one of the best lines :-)

Funny enough I was just looking at this exact same switcher two days ago and here your are doing a review on it. Your break down definitely made it less ATEM-Imdating and laid out it’s straightforward functions.

I’m so jealous of this guys back ground set up. And cameras and everything

Most blackmagic equipment I’ve used was rack mounted so everything was plugged into the mounted power strip and that ended up being our on/off switch.

I have bought an Atem mini and am just loving it. Linked 3 computers catching different zoom screens when were fed to obs where different scenes were created using obs and the obs out put again wemt to zoom as virtual webcam as an input for all in the meeting to see with all effects and also streamed from to zoom to youtube and fb via restream.. It was amazing experience. Atem mini made it all possible. It awesome and is every bit of whats presented in this video...

Man, I was watching another youtuber and was wondering how they kept switching cameras so seamlessly. A very good review Tom and keep up the good work!

I actually had an ATEM Mini Pro when they first came out. They were in high demand and low supply so I got it to somebody else who could do more with it. eCamm Live did all that I needed. I pressed play thinking, I been down this road, but I'm gonna watch cause Tom's awesome. I LOL'd at "the whole point is to make your audience think you're even more awesome." Mission accomplished bro!

For 3 years I was working with the ATEM 1 4k - it's a beast but it too needed all the inputs to be the same or it just didn't want to work. Frustrating but once it was up, it was good. BMD announced the ATEM Mini Pro ISO - it adds recording of up to 5 separate H.264 video streams.  I am leaning to the Pro mainly because of the Multi-view - I really liked it on the ATEM 1. Thanks Tom for the walk-thru on this!

I wish I had a HS teacher like you back in the day! I use to work w/a local tv station back in the day, & you’re consoles were $1, 000’s of dollars! And analog back then. Technology is AMAZING!!!!

Great video 😀

Combine it with Elgato Stream Deck, Companion and macros, you have a really powerful setup.

I operate my ATEM Mini Pro, only from my Stream Deck.

I have a button, when I start a “show” that will switch to cam 1, , activate my mic, put my computer on preview, start recording, and after 5 sec. put a lower third on screen.

When I end the show, I have another button that will switch to a still with my logo, fade out the audio, and after 5 sec. stop the recording.

I have a Raspberry Pi to playback video, and great transitions, also controlled by macros, operated from the Stream Deck.

I know it is a lot more advanced, it’s just that I’m a Nerd (also a drummer) 😉

I put the Atem Mini in my Amazon cart recently and 'saved it for later'. I checked out your video, which btw is very informative, and put it back in my cart. Dropping the hammer on this one. Cheers!

I work at a small private college, and my Atem mini gets used daily. I now have the regular mini and the Mini Pro ISO. I used the ISO last night so we could livestream an event and get the full recording. Afterward it took me less than 10 minutes to edit and export the final recording.

Love this review. It is clear you are a teacher with the comprehensive flow of your presentation.
Questions:
1. do you find your rodecaster pro redundant in any way (audio-wise of course) to use together with the Atem mini
2. can you record a streaming session in its entirety and use as a future webinar or presentation
3. What specifically did you use (item) to be able to turn the Atem on and off
4. What advantagges would the Atem Mini pro or ISO offer that you feel the Mini doesn't have. In other words why would one consider either of these instead of the A. Mini.

Great video Tom! I'm slowly building up a whole list of awesome gear to get in the near future and the ATEM Mini is certainly on there! 😄👍

Came for the review, stayed for the wholesomeness. But for real, been a sub for a while, stellar work and pacing. Love that you have an index in the description. And I promise this is not a review of your review channel. ...!

I really liked the intro to this video "This is video is sponsored by me because I bought it"

Oh I just realized you not only have the same tech setup as me w/the ATEM and the Rodecaster, you have the same IKEA chair, ha! And Aaron’s videos are great, plus he does a lot of live Q&A sessions for people who have questions. I usually recommend both of you, so it was nice to see that merging!

Absolutely love my ATEM Mini. It has been one of the best pieces of equipment that I purchased for my mobile streaming setup. So much power and versatility for (relatively) little money. The only thing that would make it better for me is multiview. But this coupled to a Video Assist 12g and Ecamm Live Pro is crazy powerful.

And I completely agree with you about the lack of power button. Don’t understand that decision as there is a ton of space for a power switch.
