How's about those "cascading regulators" (if that's what they're called) that use a switching regulator to bring the voltage down to just enough for a linear regulator to filter out the noise?

The higher the frequency is, the smaller transformer you need. Switch mode power supplies convert the mains first into high voltage DC, then back into AC with a high frequency, and feed that to the transformer.

@adafruit can you please add a video on how to improve an existing switching supply? They are all quite similar. Would an X2 filter be enough? Replacing the electrolytic? Adding a ceramic?

Batteries are great except for when they’re noisy.

12 volts into the input pin of this smps
Could we get the main line voltage?
(Some modifications like polarity of capacitors be switched)
And stuff
Would it work?

I believe it's also the same for inverters? But unlike power supply, low frequency toroidal inverter is much more preferred (albeit pricier and heavier) since they generate less heat (can work nonstop) and are more reliable than high frequency inverters.

Just lighter and cheaper, less copper etc
