Looking back at this review again; I have since been based there for many months in 2024 parked by the fuel station. There's always something going on at POPHAM throughout the whole year, no time to get bored and a good range of facilities. I enjoyed the offset 26/08/03, a slight challenge but the runways are long for a microlight. Loved visiting other nearby aerodromes. Highly recommended.

Great new series idea. I'm not a real pilot but I'm a Microsoft Flight Sim VR nut who loves flying around the UK and has every payware scenery so its great to get a look at the real place and see how the sim compares. Definitely look forward to more of these!

Last time i flew into popham i had to approach between the trees, bank and flare at the same time to land on the westerly runway. And quite often had to do a low level overshoot to scare the sheep into a corner of the field. Happy days!

Last time I was at Popham was in the mid 80s - long prior to me getting my license. Was with a mate in his J3 cub and we thought it would be good idea for me to try the take off. Oh- the stupidity / innocence of youth. I rotated too early, left wing stalled and there we were heading towards the A303 with the wingtip running through the grass. Thankfully my mate got it back under control and stopped before we joined the traffic on the dual carriageway and the two slightly chastened intrepid aviators continued the tour around the country with me as co-pilot only touching the controls for the en-route sections. Never went back (to embarrassed) and I'm no longer actively flying but must pop in for some scoff next time I'm in the area.

Thanks for the review John - brought back some memories !!

Nice airfield, with a bit of a feature with the vintage aircraft. May I suggest that you visit Damyns Hall Aerodrome in Essex, amongst other things its home to the Tiger Club, and also a flight school for the Pipistrel Electric Aircraft. The cafe there does an excellent selection of meals and snacks! We'll worth a visit.

Great idea. You must fly into Denham (EGLD) in West London

This is a fabulous idea Jon; I have often wished that I could have a lowdown on an aerodrome before flying there.

I think though, that you could go one better with a full integration into each aerodrome with full RT.

Very handy video indeed, Jon. This series will be of benefit to a lot of pilots and undoubtedly get us flying to new destinations, which has to be a win-win situation 👌👍👏👏👏
