There are valid forms of whataboutisms. For example I was talking to someone about history and they were making a fuss about certain countries doing certain things. I pointed out that literally every country was partaking in those actions to the same degree, so I asked why don't they care about that. They screamed whataboutism and refused to elaborate.

she’s kinda right tho, like the problem of men’s mental health should be taken more seriously, but a lot of people use it as a gotcha when women talk abt their issues, which makes it harder to take seriously when they are only distracting from the issue at hand. its also quite hard to not fall down the “what about” route when you hear the objectivity more privileged section of society complaining about something that could be argued happens /to some extent/ to everyone. Yes the stigma needs to be taken away, and with it the rest of societies prejudices. it’s easy to understand the urge to want to deal with issues that affect yourself rather than people you see as having “less of a struggle” than you - and that is where the issue lies. people will be more open to hearing about men’s struggles when they have an “equal amount” to women. this is an issue that comes with our deeply flawed society, and neither side should be blamed for it
