This movie did a great job at making it look like he accidentally hit her when he burned his hand before later on showing she was being gaslighted and he intentionally hit her. Domestic abusers don’t just physically hurt you. They psychologically hurt you like gaslighting.

Not excusing domestic violence, but if someone is upset and trying to put space between themselves and you, DO NOT chase after them.

Lily wasnt cheating, she never went to Atlas until she knew he was right about the abuse. I also really liked the way Lily asked for a divorce. She made Ryle realize what he was doing and in a calm way when so many of these situations turn so bad.

No matter how much you love, don't live with an abuser

So I noticed when the scenes are playing out at first they kind of make him look like they are accidental hits, but when Lily is thinking back after in the car and you see the flashes of those scenes where he “accidentally hits her” and you see him actually looking intentional with hitting her…did they do that on purpose so that the audience could experience the trauma response of not seeing the situation for what it actually was until you stop and think back and realize they weren’t accidents? Just curious if that was intended.

These comments are a pinnacle example of how most people don't give a rat's ass about victims and will make any excuse for the abuser

not to support domestic violence but Lilly was a cheater, she had no business with her ex fling, Atlas, while dating Ryle.

The director was too afraid to show the abuse so he just cuts away and the impact of these scenes is lost. Likely this is our woke culture which tries to hide everything real from us - but even hiding this make believe scene with actors
It’s cowardly and the movie loses almost all of its impact because of it
If you want to watch an excellent film that isn’t afraid to tell the raw truth of physical abuse in a relationship and the way out then watch Once Were Warriors

Ok, not excusing anything BUT you cannot chase after or block someone who needs space. If they are that upset and you crowd them what do you expect to happen??

I understand domestic violence but that woman was just playing games....she should have just ended the relationship after that fight in Atlas's restaurant. She was clearly in love with Atlas

Never read the book but saw the movie. Is it me the only one who thinks that the character Lily's a liar? I get the whole trauma and the difficulty of opening bad experiences but Lily pushed Ryle over the edge. Ryle holding Lily down and biting her collarbone are definitely DV acts but there's a reason why Ryle did it. I'm not saying what Ryle did was right but some people can't handle their own temper.

There should be no compromise on domestic violence but let's just agree that Lily was a stupid character and pretty much contributed to her injuries

I never watched the movie but although victim blaming isnt good. victim coddling is worse. In the end people have to look after themselves. The best thing a victim can do is remove themselves from the situation and think logically. Abusers do not care about emotions you must think in your own self interest. Dont be silly and chase after or raise your hands to someone that can seriously hurt you. Once you're injured its too late.

Lily was fuelling the abuse by still being in love with her ex, her husband was jealous and obsessed with her, she should've know her partner
