When I was young in this craft, I had no idea how to set a good solid rivet. Hopefully this video will help others to not struggle as I did.

Rivets and setters can be found on our website:

Great playlist of these 2 min tool tips. As a beginner this is just perfect for getting a basic understanding before watching longer, more in depth vids. Right now I want to learn a little about all of the items and I couldn’t ask for anything more other than keep making these. :)

On brass rivets, especially, after cutting off the shaft of the rivet I give it one more whack with the hole in the setter over the shaft. Sometimes the process of cutting it off can loosen the washer. I do like to start the doming process with the tool. I think it helps get the peening started evenly. Much like when you showed the use of the phillips screwdriver "hack" in your video on snaps.

Is there a reason outside of aesthetics why copper is more popular than brass? to my understanding brass is the superior metal strength wise so surly it would be a better fit for something like a bag strap?

So if when you run your finger over the rivet and it catches cause it’s not smooth, how do you get the river smooth? Are the sharp edges because the river is cracked from becoming hardened? Or is the rivet not down enough? And how do you keep it rounded, not bang up what is around the river and still get the rivet set well and finished? What causes the rough sharp edges? Thank you

I don't think I have a rivet setter tool like that one. Can they be set without it?
