Sunrise At Angel's Gate | New work for Concert Band by Philip Sparke

Off the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is the great rock structure known as Angel’s Gate. Imagine the dawn of a new day, as the rising sun slowly reveals the magnificent canyon below. Written for The U.S. Army Field Band, this is Phillip Sparke’s “Sunrise at Angel’s Gate.”

Performed live in Flagstaff, AZ in October of 2019.

What a great piece of music! I played this some years ago with a band here in Germany…. And although I‘ve never been at the Angels Gate I can imagine how a sunrise looks there…. But after playing it you need some extra oxygen (at least with contrabass clarinet)
