I've covered this Sonic Fan Game in the past back when the first demo came out and it only had one stage (Hill Top Zone), so there isn't anything much I can add over what I said in my previous video

I really enjoy this Sonic fan game (even though my gameplay in this video is subpar at times, especially near the end... yeesh). Recorded this at 2 AM in the morning, since I want to cover as many SAGE 2019 games as possible before Sunday when I leave.

Some nitpicks regarding the camera (you can see I try to fiddle with the settings) since I find the camera too sensitive and I prefer a slower camera. Also, maybe it's the way I set the stick controller sensitivity but when I try to brake (back on the analog stick) Sonic sometimes turns around.

Besides that, I had fun with this and I do recommend it

Man that Air Acceleration is insane. I can see a lot of players skipping level challenges with that.

I keep seeing these "sage" fan made games.

Dont get me wrong, its cool. I love sonic.

Buuut. You guys reall need to change the game play to be all fluid and all about momentum and keeping up your speed.

Every action that sonic makes should be about getting speed, linking his homing attack to a wall jump, or wall cling roll into a dash to go from an being in the air to a wall run.

All with animations that move in and out of one another.

Its not enough to have a homing attack, or bounce.

Momentum should be the name of the game, and levels that allow for player creativity. When using said movement abilities.

I know, this is just a fan project, and its impressive.

Id just really like to see a fan make a sonic game that realizes the potential that having a super fast acrobatic character can bring

Boy I love the afterimage and the sense of speed. Nicely done!

Voice acting is... questionable, but I love how Shadow utters "DIE" lmao

IMO it needs a little bit of work on sound fx, tweak with the volumes because some of them are just too loud, and some sfx just cut; this could be fixed with some reverb to give the impression they last longer.
Besides those things, absolutely amazing job!

That's why I don't like the Bumper Engine so much. It is because Sonic is WAY TOO FAST AND WAY TOO FLOATY. I think not even Unleashed had such absurd speed, and you also lost speed when you jumped. The level design may be built around these broken physics, but it still doesn't seems right. In my opinion, the Hero Project has the most balanced, perfect controls for the Adventure formula.

Wow this game has some speedrunning potential (i have played it). The rolling, spindash AND dropdash is pretty quick, the homing attack has a momentum variant which is crucial, air dash + trick helps keeping you in the air, which is vital for keeping your speed (ground decelerates you), the lightdash, the level design, the time attack mission, *EVERYTHING.* The game is really fast, perhaps a little bit too fast.
Also i think Sonic and Shadow are identical, aside from animations, sounds and models.

There are many points where it looks like it would be hard to control Sonic's movement due to the overly floaty nature of this demo. Also not really a fan of the camera freaking out every time you touch even the slightest of inclines or slopes.

The music sounds like some dude in the studio randomly hitting keys on the C scale 😂 (menu music is good though.)

Just to let you know, don't play this on a low end computer. Its so freaking slow on mine. not fps lag but it's really freaking slow.

The Hill Top stage is basically the kind of Level Design that the boost games need. I can assure you that if you were to insert it into this game, we'd be getting similar results.


If the enemies can just be easily obliterated, then the level design should make up for it... hell if anything, it'll only emphasize the fact that Sonic was never about combat, to begin with. The name of the game for the boost is still technically "speed and flow" just interpreted differently from the classic games.


Doing Great: Stay on the faster route.
Doing Poorly: Stay on the slower route.


Mind you, if the Adventure Games are 3D interpretations of Classic Sonic... then they do a shit job when following that certain design philosophy. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy SA1 and 2, but to say it has level design like Classic Sonic... maybe exploration-wise, but as far as using physics to your advantage goes, HELL NO! (Plus they are kind of jank by today's standards)


But that's just me.
