How to tighten bicycle stem bolts

In this tech tips video, Graeme of Frontenac Cycle touches on a common mistake that we see at the shop, improperly/unevenly tightened stem bolts. Too tight/loose on top or bottom and you're at risk of the bar spinning, tossing you over said bars...OTB as they say. Take 2 minutes and see how to get your stem installed correctly. You're welcome.

Happy Trails.

Keep in mind that tightening instruction can vary depending on manufacturer. Some stems are designed for the bottom to be tightened flush first, then torque the top bolts. For example, I know of an Easton and Renthal model stem that require this. Thanks.

Sir is it ok for them to be slightly uneven like none is tighten all the way in but the top is about 2-3 mm less gap? It's impossible for me to get them even.

Someone should really invent some type of self sealing stem bolt to prevent this problem.
