A memorable and great movie. I loved Tatiana Samoilova’s play . I saw this movie in 1958 in my home Town Rasht, Iran which is near the Caspian sea and 7 hour with a steam boat to Russia. It took a while for this movie to be translated to farsi and be played in the local Theatre. It cost me 10 cents to buy a ticket and watch it carefully. I still remember the marching music for draftees going to tbe war. It was so sad to see that he got killed so quickly . They were so in love and met each other with passion .
Even though it is very hard to understand Russian language but her singing and movement leaves a sweet memory in your mind. Uncle David- Houston

Nothing, absolutely nothing to envy any other film from this genre and era.
I think that more than being about war, it's about the people who live it, suffer it, and find the strength to go on.
Very authentic and inspirational, thanks and greetings from Chile 👋

This masterpiece is incomparable, a shining example of Urusevsky's camera work at the highest level. Samoylova is a "divine" beauty, she lived this role at a high acting level. There is absolutely nothing irritating in this "cult" film, the script, the music, the cast, everything is in its place. This movie is timeless! Brilliant work.

At mark 30:35, how on earth did he get this shot done? It moves and is perfectly focused on Veronika's face. It is decades before it's time, before steady cam technology.Incredible.

Heartbreaking and phenomenal cinematography (not simply for 1957 but even compared to modern film).

This must be a great movie! Like most of the Soviet films from that period. Great Soviet cinematography and theatre school. Aleksey Batalov was an exceptional actor. I liked him so much in "Moskva Doesn't Believe in Tears". Who didn't, actually? •I wonder if I could also find "The 41st". I must've been 14 y.o. when I watched that film and I still remember that war drama. Thank you for these gems, Mosfilm.

Mosfilms always make you feel such strong emotions. The suffering then determination to be of service to others. Her giving away the flowers at the end was her courage to go on. What a wonderful film. Spasibo Mosfilms!

A most memorable & romantic movie based upon WWII. Cinema lovers around the world during late 50s and 60s were fond of this Soviet-era movie. I could watch this movie during mid 70s on TV.

I've been waiting for this movie for long; this is the first Mosfilm production, that I remembered.I was about 15-16 years old, living in Eastern Block, that I saw this film....After 65 years, I still remember Tatjana Samoljova and Alexej Batalov. Then followed The Clear Skys and Destin of a men....These gems are unforgettable!.Thank you very, very much.

The crane is a symbol of soldiers. I heard a story that they return in the form of cranes. The song of the crane in Russian folk music Журавли (canines) is not used in this movie, but I believe that listening to this song would deepen the meaning of the movie even more. "спасибо"

What can one say to properly describe such a well acted, heartfelt, realistic movie about wartime suffering and loss ?
