On February 8th, 2022, at Butaro Campus, UGHE officially launched the Center for Equity in Global Surgery (CEGS). Prof. Abebe Bekele, UGHE’s Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic and Research Affairs, Dean of the School of Medicine said that the main objective of the newly launched Center for Equity in Global Surgery is to contribute to building a strong, resilient surgical system that can provide consistent, affordable, high-quality care. “UGHE is establishes this center as a solution to this global imbalance in access to delivery of surgical service” - Prof. Agnes Binagwaho, UGHE Vice Chancellor.
