What is a Form 1 under the Mental Health Act?

This is where the system fails. Currently our roommate who's lived with us for years deteriorated into serious mental illness, never diagnosed. No doctor. Refuses help, doesn't believe anything is wrong. Medicine is poison. Well, after not sleeping, eating or drinking and threatening us, the police finally took him to the hospital. He was admitted under form 1. So he'll be assessed and treated for his mental illness right? Actually, they'll just make sure he doesn't look like he's going to harm himself or others while being assessed. Then they'll send him right back. Still not lucid, still now aware that he's not in reality. Still having delusions of grandeur and paranoid delusions.

He ended up there after we told him that he would have to get treatment in order to continue living here, he lost it. Dreading the moment he returns. I don't feel safe. But I don't see options. They're just letting people out without treating them. It's terrifying.

so what happens after 72 hours if the patient wants out of the hospital even if they are not in mental health condition to be released on the streets cause of harm to themselves?

Thanks for this. My questions is.. does one need to satisfy ALL the 4 criteria for involuntary admisdion to mental health unit? or one can be asmitted only for 1 or 2?

This is exactly why most people keep their suffering to themselves. You can end up losing the reigns of your life over to strangers who can profit off of your suffering. It is better to die than become a slave to people arrogant and powerful enough to impose their self-righteousness on you. In the past, U.S. doctors said that the reason African slaves were running away was due to a disease. People will say anything to get what they want out of a situation; the medical field is not above humanity's self-centered desires. To any people who has yet to fall into such traps as this, never trust anyone who has an interest in you before they know who you are and where you came from. Their concern is not for you; it is for what you can provide them. Trust people who are indifferent to you as they can grow to care about you whereas the people who implement "form 1" are more likely to settle with the agenda they had coming into this situation. This is a sick world and everyone deserves healing, but help will never truly come from wolves in shepards clothing. This is only the wolf's way of justifying dehumanizing you enough to take advantage of your circumstances.

If the patient is mentally and verbally abusing a live in family member. Can a form 1 be administered?

This is wrong...so very wrong. Allowing those whom are well aware of their symptoms, diagnosis and triggers not to "accept" the process of a disorder bestowed upon them mostly thru abuse/neglect or pathology, unaware nor unable to conciously at the time to protect themselves for a struggle they were never prepared for....not be given a voice to say "hey I'm ok..I'm just having a moment ...whatever that moment is...let me go thru my process I'll be ok I was triggered ..please" and be taken away by brutal force by police who only has a weekend course in psychology to make that accessment of whether to detain me for 72 in a Psychiatric facility... I'd go on.... just know you have no idea what you are talking about....Ontario's Mental Health System is broken and this Form One takes the Free Will of ppl away..period and when questioned as to your treatment ....you cannot get an answer...not thru Hospital's Patient Relations Co Ordinator..you can file a report..as far as it goes..never see it thru..just file a report..how useless....so just so you know an individual can have their Human Rights violated, the Mental Health Act ..VIOLATED!! and their Patients Rights VIOLATED!!!....NOTHING will be done, reported, even recognized...not even thru the CMHA....why? Well they are the ones who support the weekend course ...they just recently posted opening Firefighters.. so I'm telling you all this so you know questions will go unanswered or be justified... because you will be treated poorly, filled will alot of bad heavy drugs you don't require, and likely blackout... animalistic really... This is wrong..very wrong!!!! Know your story please.
