This is something I’ve asked myself a lot lately and I do own one which I’ve recently put up for sale. I really like how the neck felt outside of its slightly longer scale length(26.5 for this guitar)but I found it rough to get a distorted sound I liked even after picking up an EQ pedal. And when I wasn’t just hanging out on the bottom 3-4 strings or top 3 strings but rather trying to navigate the entire fretboard I would most definitely get lost muscle memory wise. Am I on the A string or the D string? The D string or the G string. And because my guitar has a narrower spacing at the nut it was a bit tougher to feel the string spacing out. I was focussing on it for awhile and trying to develop the sounds and feels I wanted but after picking up one of my 6s again it became clear that a 7 probably isn’t for me and just downtuning a 6 string is better fit. Who knows, maybe I just needed to get different pickups or use a better amp for those lower frequencies. It’s also worth noting that the nature of a 7string seems almost made for an all fourths tuning approach especially when trying to learn new arpeggio and scale shapes

What I dislike about 7-string guitars is the wide neck and the neck profile. Some guitar manufacturers make the nut width smaller as they should be doing. I myself have altered my 7-string neck. I made the neckwidth smaller, the neck thinner and I changed the neck profile from D to C. It plays a lot better now. Only thing left to do is changing the fretboard radius from 20 to 15 inch and refretting it from jumbo to medium frets. Than at last I change the nut making the stringspace smaller and I have a much better playable 7-string.

I'm wondering if a 7 string would be a better candidate for the New Standard Tuning?

Because extra string gives extra notes that you have to tune to sound proper?
