When Weird Al asked for MJ's permission to parody the song, Jackson not only said yes, he actually let Weird Al use the same set from the original song's video! MJ loved Weird Al.

Weird Al was interviewed after his video for "Eat It" smashed the charts back in the day: when asked why he had so many songs about food, he simply replied that he felt he owed food something, as it had kept him alive for years.

Honestly, I've never heard of a single person, fat or slim, who was offended by this song because they understood what PARODY means and they also know that Al had and has ZERO mean intentions in any of his songs.

fun fact since i don't see it in the comments yet; michael jackson actually helped Al by teaching him the dance moves for Bad
they were pretty good friends as far as i remember

I'm so proud that the younger generations are discovering the true master of this genre. Please realize that he has been doing this since your parents were children.

Little known trivia: One of the dancers in Fat was a piazza delivery guy who wad dripping off pizzas for the cast and crew, and Al hired him on the spot for the video.

Al's song isn't about fat SHAMING. The singing character is proud, no, he's SMUG about his fatness.

"When I go to the beach, I'm a lucky man. I'm the only one who gets a tan." 😁

Seeing Al in concert is a blast. He wears all the costumes from his videos on stage, including the "fat suit" from this video.

I'm fat and have been laughing at this brilliant parody since it was released. When I garden, I always yell "HOOOOEEEE!!!"

Love both Michael and Weird Al. Apparently Michael loved both parodies Weird Al did (the other is Eat It - parody of Beat It). Michael made his own parody of Bad called Badder. It features kids dancing instead of adults and it's in Michael's Moonwalker movie.

"Weird Al is a genius..."
the term "genius" pales when it comes to Al, my hero for more than 40 years. my personal favorite is Dare to be Stupid, with White and Nerdy just under it, and then Yoda!

Weird Al is amazing. His attention to detail is only surpassed by how he did his songs. He had to find the right words, with the exact verbal rhythm, syllable count, and then manage to rhyme so many of them, also having to match those with the rhythm and syllable count! To call him a lyrical genius is barely scratching the surface of the titles he deserves.

And the gate in this video mean I couldn't win a You Laugh, You Lose challenge. Yelling "ho" twice before a farmer runs up and hands him a gardening hoe, and later yelling "woo" twice, and holding up a word balloon with "woo" written on it as his voice sounds it at the same time, he's a comedic mastermind.

I have absolutely nothing but respect for Weird Al, because he puts in the time and work to make an homage type parody of popular songs. He also has his polka medleys, where he sings snippets of the real songs, done as a polka. Again, the effort he goes to for his art is worthy of as much respect as I can give, and a lot more.

If you haven't heard it, his song Word Crimes is both a parody, and a subtle way of telling the world he actually cares a lot about language and grammar, and as a musician, that has greatly helped him become the legend he is today.

I always liked Weird Al's abilities but I didn't fully appreciated how well he made I'm Fat until now. And as a fat bastard, I am not offended. I loved his parodies in the 80's/90's.

Don't forget to give some love to Al's backup dancers because they are actual big guys and they are dancing up a storm.

even though al has gotten older he has not lost his touch or outrageous personality. He still has the same energy today as he when he started, it's a pleasure to watch him and see all generations appreciate his work.

This is a celebration of being fat, he sings "The whole world knows that I''m fat and I'm proud."
Weird Al isn't mean, he can make us laugh without denigrating anyone.

Good job doing the side by side / frame by frame comparison. I never saw that kind of comparison on YT before. While I have seen both videos by themselves and enjoyed them, your method of showing the videos side my side / frame by frame brought new appreciation of how detailed Al's parodies are and how much care he takes in them. 1st Class!

Al is the GOAT of parody.. Plus he can actual sing. His attention to detail is second to none... Jennifer, Chloe do not over think this masterpiece. Al is Al. Enough No one else on Earth is like Al, no one!!
