Hi my name is Carl Jacobson,
I started woodworking with my grandfather as a young boy. I continued woodworking through high school, and started woodturning after seeing a turned project in a friends shop. Some of my fondest memories are working with my grandfather in his wood shop. Being able to share our passion for woodworking, ties it all together.

Been a while since I saw you turn a lidded box. A small apple lidded box you turned years ago was my introduction to you and turning. The lathe had some clickety-clacking noises I loved.

I noticed you left in some of the woodturning sounds even though you said you didn't like them! I wanted to say it's noticed and appreciated :D I personally love hearing the wood shaving but I completely understand you muting it too.

Simple yet elegant. There is always a gem of a tip in everything you do. Although been doing making turned boxes for a while, did not pay attention to the small but subtle changes that occur after I finish turning the box to "perfect fit" to find out there is warping especially the lid a few days later. So your suggestion of waiting a few days after the "close to final" fit to finish the turning and apply the sealers. Have to incorporate that as SOP.

Every time you turn a lidded box I say, I Love Lidded Boxes! I'd like to say something different but the only thing I can come up with is,
I Love Lidded Boxes! Thank you, Carl!

Great job like always. I liked the way you parted off the finish lid by holding the parting tool in your left hand and the part in your right hand. I see to many wrap their left arm around the part and head stock. It’s to easy to get wrapped up in the chuck.. I guess that’s from being a machinist for 47 years. Keep up the great work.

Really nice, Carl. The grain is something special. The Howards leaves the wood with a nice feel, too. Stay safe.

Using Howard’s for the finish and while sanding is a keen idea. Box looks great.

Have you always been a carbide scraper? I'd have to go back and watch your older videos but I thought you usually cut with gouges and skews rather than scraped with carbides. Lovely box. I'm waiting for warmer weather to turn more because I don't have room inside for my lathe, it's out in an unheated shed.

The callipers that you used to measure and mark the lid thickness on the body looked like something I should pick up at some point. The box looked great man, love the figuring on the wood particularly!
