Hollywood trope the black guy always dies first. That trope wasn't broken until LL Cool J survived till the end of the movie Deep Blue Sea. What was funny is that they trick everybody into thinking Samuel L Jackson's character was going to live but they killed him in the beginning right after he gave a passionate motivational speech.
