Lift Formula.

The lift formula simply explained.

Please note a clarification to this video:
Only "V²" is highlighted as IAS in this video but ideally "½ρV²" should have been highlighted as IAS.
V = Velocity which is True Airspeed (TAS).
½ ρV² = Dynamic Pressure which is like Indicated Airspeed (IAS).

Wow. Never seen a simpler explanation for lift formula on the internet. Great work.

I wish I knew about this channel before I went to flight school, would've helped immensely with exams

I don't know if you're still putting out as many videos, but I wanted to let you know I've found your content hugely helpful while studying for my PPL/CPL during covid lockdown!

Almost correct. The V2 in the formula is actually TAS not IAS. Great channel!

Excellent video. One smallnflaw though. V is shown as IAS. While its really TAS, true airspeed. Rho and V together is closer to IAS.

EMT- "Sir, how did you break your face on a bus sign?

Man- "I was testing dynamic air pressure."

EMT- "Sir, I think you failed."

Good Video, just one little correction: It says, that the speed at which the aircraft flies through the Air is called the IAS, but it should be the TAS, the true airspeed in fact, not the indicated :)

Thank you for this explanation!

Does this explanation for AoA work with the propellers too? Like, on helicopters, when the airflow is pushing down on the blade cross-section instead of from the left?

This is the Kutta–Joukowski lift theorem. And instead of using area S of airfoil we can also put length of airfoil/2, but using area gives more presize answer.

So if speed is doubled, Coefficient of lift is multiplied by 0.25
