What is a skeuomorph?

... and why should we care?

The skeuomorph is kind of an ode to its ancestors in terms of design. Skeuomorphic design can be seen in maple syrup bottles and all over graphical user interfaces and icons. Apple has most arduously adopted skeuomorphism into its iOS designs, up until the death of Steve Jobs and the departure of Scott Forstall.

Then... things started to look a lot more minimal. Microsoft has also adopted a flatter, minimalist design treatment for its interface. So is skeuomorphic design still relevant?

I still miss the skeuomorphic design.  It looks more 3D, & is more useful in ensuring wider acceptance and intuitive design.

I want it back in the design of iOS, it's what made the experience enjoyable to me and encapsulated what Apple was all about to the user experience.

I think skeumorphism will make a comeback at some point. It will be even better nowdays, as we have there high resolution screens! I will never forget seeing a skeuomorphic design in my iPhone 4 for the first time on a retina display! Sad that only shortly after they switched to IOS 7 that changed that.
If they are gonna bring skeuomorphism back it will looks so good on all the modern devices!

I was really disappointed when after the Mac OS Mountain Lion's 3D GUI a new flat design came. And now it's even hard to find some website templates with at least a little shadow, gloss and texture to the elements! And of course, when you see FLAT DESIGN *ugh..*, you can't help but think of lazy designers, greedy agencies' bosses, tasteless customers etc.
Hopefully, this flat design trend will soon be *morphed* with the good old skeuomorph eye candy, bringing best of the minimalism and tactility to light!

Skeuomorph is what makes a joy, more colours, 3D pleasure look and so on, while flat design and corporate Memphis style are just a soulless, blank, grey, depressive, everything standardized BS.

People want skeuomorphic back, I SAY NO, because, if apple ever does go back to skeuomorphic then people and developers are gonna be MAD, devs would have to redesign every app and feature of what they made, second, people are not gonna get use to it, they might hate it, also, with a gigantic screen, skeuomorphic designs dont seem good, no one is gonna get used to it, i dont hate skeuomprhic designs, i just dont wanna change the style, also, what about the app switcher, control center, it dosent seem like a good thing to convert back to skerumorphic.
