This was in 1190, Bishop Hugh of Lincoln visited Fécamp Abbey, France, where a relic believed to be Mary Magdalene's mummified arm was kept. Wanting a piece for Lincoln Cathedral, England, he bit off two fingers and took them.

The fingers were kept in Lincoln Cathedral as relics. The rest of the arm remained at Fécamp Abbey, where it is still venerated today.
