First Astro Coffee of the year! Today I'm talking with Dr Brian Keating, a professor of physics at the University of California, San Diego; a Fellow of the American Physical Society; a commercially rated pilot; and the director of the Simons Observatory.

His book "Losing the Nobel Prize" is now out in paperback tells his story working on the frontiers of cosmology as inventor/co-inventor of the BICEP and BICEP 2 (Background Imaging of Cosmic Extragalactic Polarization) Telescopes.

Join Tony live as he plays a pre-recorded interview from 2019 and ask questions and chat!

Pity that the live chat recording is missing from this one, unlike other events, I wanted to revise the various questions I'd asked

The premise that a new universe is split off by each decision sound anthropocentric. Or does a coyote going to a stream to have a drink rather than returning to its den split off a new universe. Does consciousness play a role?

Tony Tony Tony!!! Please increase the treble on your mic levels. Your bass is always too high and not enough treble. It's really difficult to listen to your channel buddy!!

Simply accept that science is a human undertaking... which means all the characteristics of humans and human societies come along with the business of doing science. I would not go so far as to call the Nobel prize a "religion" - that smacks me as a bit too much like fundamentalists calling atheism a religion - but instead I would call the Nobel prize yet another human institution that is resistant to change.
