In this Physics video in Hindi for class 11 we explained Poisson's ratio and derived its formula. Poisson’s ratio for a material is the negative of the ratio of lateral strain to longitudinal strain of a body made of that material. When a body is deformed such that it experience a longitudinal strain, it experience a lateral strain also. In general, when a body is streched, it becomes thinner. But auxetics are different. Auxetics are structures or materials which become thicker, when stretched.
