I also prefer Nancy. I have a different feeling when she sings it. When Nancy sings it, I feel like I am listening the most beautiful and saddest love story ever. I don't believe in written meanings of songs. For me, the end is the death of the loved man. Not just the leaving after hurting her. I believe that death and being alone hurt her and shot her down. And that feeling only Nancy can give me.
