The other thing with Antony and why we were so prone to overpaying for targets is, if our coach wanted a player and it ended up being unfeasible, who was the person trusted to identify another target with similar qualities and profile? I doubt Murtough and the rest of them had any confidence to say here Erik weve got an alternative because Erik is the only guy in the building with any football accumen. Now Erik can put some trust in Ashworth and know other people are also accountable and responsible if the money is spent poorly, its not just everything on the manager to get things right

I like that it looks like we will have a well built team, the correct number of players in each position it allows alot of flexibility we might not do it but Zirkzee will allow us to go two upfront if we want or getting the correct number of quality centre backs we could go three at the back. Having options like that will be good.

Saying all that all I want to see next season is that weird gap between defensive and attack to go!

DiMaria and Memphis were good when they first came in because it was before LVG's tactics where beaten into them and they were told to play crab football or they'd be dropped. The number of players we signed who were made for playing counterattacking football and then told by LVG to never pass the ball forwards, FML. Same thing happened to Morgan Schneiderlin. Best DM in the league the year before, amazing in pre-season, stopped every attack and instantly pinged a perfect cross field pass to the opposite wing, then LVG broke him so badly that his career was ruined.

The midfield problem was due to the defensive woes. It's a knock on effect.

I think your retrospectoscope on the Casemiro transfer is way off. At the time, we were buzzing, and his first season was great. His drop-off in year 2 was massive and there was no way of predicting that 12 months in advance. He’s still got it in him and could put in another 2 solid seasons, if he had the motivation. We just don’t have a way of putting a rocket under him.

Reminder: EtH’s 1st season he “picked the players” because the people who we’d think would be halping to mold the players to his style, basically, abdicated their jobs.
