I just love how that Gator blade shape looks! Great choice putting the thumbstud on there!

Love the beefy handle on the folder. Great in below zero temps. Used it mostly on wood to adjust tight fitting things in cabins. Blade very easy to re-sharpen.
EDC for a lot of years. Handle very slightly warn but you get great control when using a lot of force. Went through several sheaths. This knife is still a work horse for removing wood.

That’s a fantastic knife Mr Toad! Great companion to your fixed blade Gator. And the thumb studs were an excellent addition. Great video. Hope you feel better soon. Cheers, RW

I have an older version of this folder. Labelled Gerber 650 on one side of the blade, Portland, OR USA on the other, no "GERBER" stamp or model number on the blade. Instead of hex head on the pivot, I have two hole security screws. It came with a nylon digital camo sheath, it does not appear to be the original sheath, I've found several on sale on eBay and they came with a black sheath with "A Fiskars Company" stitched on it. This knife was a gift from my Dad several years back. It was nice to compare yours, thanks!

I picked up one of those many years ago before I got into knives. It is nice in hand but it would not hold and edge at all. I don't think mine has the steel name on it. People used to call it Gerber mystery steel. I added one of the removeable thumb studs as well. It helps a lot. Thanks for sharing Dave

My wife found one of these knives while she was hiking. I had to regrind the tip as it had slight damage but other than that it was in great shape. Thanks for the video. Take care.

Great video my friend!! I love the Gerber Gator! It's a classic piece of cutlery for sure! But, I would agree with you. I would not pay $70 for one. I got mine in a trade with Big J and I know he got a killer deal on it.. LOL.... But, a must have for every knife collector!

I still have my Gerber Gator half serrated my dad gave me as a kid in the mid 90's. Never sharpened. I did lose the sheath unfortunately.

Also have a Gerber camp hatchet and machete that take a sharp edge and work well.

I like my Gerber 650 Gator. It looks like the same knife except it is pinned not torque pivot. I can usually pinch and flip the blade of my Gator so haven't thought about adding a thumb stud. But a thumb stud does make sense if you want it one hand opening. I've been looking for a low cost fixed blade version. Thanks for the look.

I have a couple Gerber Bolt action knives about ten years older and I like that neither one have nail nicks because it just a place for dirt to hide. They are great lightweight knives, that look clean and simple with not anything you do not really need. For a lightweight hunting knife used for dressing game it is still a good choice for its intended use. Not every knife has to chop down trees, baton firewood and strike sparks with a ferro-rod. There are other better choices to use for that. 🐸🤔👍

Just to be difficult 😂 I would like the folder with the drop point. The clip is almost the same as my old Imperial wildcat skinner. I like them both honestly.
