President Joe Biden has established a national monument to honour Emmett Till, a black teenager who was lynched in 1955 in Mississippi, as well as his mother, a White House official said.

Till's lynching and the activism of his mother Mamie Till-Mobley helped galvanise the civil rights movement.

Mr Biden signed a proclamation on Tuesday 25 July which was Till's birthday.

It comes a year after he signed the Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act into law.

The Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument will include three separate sites in two states - Illinois and Mississippi.

The woman who accused him just recently died this year. If the president wanted to make a difference or bring about justice she should have been held accountable.!

What happened to that young man was beyond evil. The woman now in her seventies confessed that she lied Emmett did not whistle at her. There was no justice and for his mother to find his broken body is beyond my comprehension. But you cant hide evil it always comes to light and this murder of a young boy was just that evil. Even if they were not convicted they will be when they stand before God. Hopefully sometime in their life they found the courage to repent.

Here's a crazy idea, any chance of the BBC reporting on some British news for a change? Considering my TV licence, along with the rest of the British public, pays your wages.

Where is the monument for the 300, 000 Yankee soldiers who lost their lives fighting against slavery? What about the 2, 000 Brirish sailors who lost their lives fighting against slavery? Was John Brown a national hero?

And unfortunately there’s going to be trumpers tht will deface it b/c of their lack of respect and over abundance of racism.

He completely lied about the African Studies curriculum in Florida. It was literally written by black scholars and in no way said that slavery benefited Africans. There was a small small subsection in the curriculum that discusses the skills some slaves learned while slaves that they later used after being freed. That’s literally it was. And it was literally added by BLACK SCHOLARS.

Why do anything about a problem when you can just erect a monument for a fraction of the price?

There are thousands of native Americans fought against European invaders. So monuments for native Americans must also be erected. They truly deserve it.
