Actually, the story goes like this as written in Dattatreya's scriptures.
Anasuya's pativrata was so high that Saraswati, Lakshmi and Parvati got jealous. They commanded their husbands to go as ascetics and ask her for her breastmilk. They unwillingly did as they could not say no to their wives. Anasuya immediately identified them and as it is a sin to refuse alms to an ascetic, she got her husband's kamandalu which had magical water in it. She turned the three into babies and the world went into ruination as the creator, protector and destroyer were babies who couldn't fulfill their purpose. The wives came to anasuya and asked for their husbands back. Anasuya said "okay, take them and go." But they did not recognise the babies and nearly chose the wrong baby. Anasuya said that she would turn their husbands back if they were born to her. They agreed and brahma vishnu and shiva were turned back. A part of them went in her womb and came to be Dattatreya.

What is the reference to this story? When one reads about Mahadev and Vishnu ji, this story becomes funny. As if Mahadev had no other work than testing some lady's virtues! He is the epitome of Respect and love for Shakti. He himself is ardhnareshwar. He has taught the human race, how to respect their other halves.
