The International Science Council was launched in July 2018 at a public event in Paris, France, which brought together top-level scientists and policy-makers to discuss the need for a unified global voice for science.

In a world facing complex challenges such as climate change and poverty, at a time of unprecedented technological and demographic change, a strong voice for science has never been more important.

Keynote speakers included Craig Calhoun, Esther Duflo, Ismail Serageldin and Cédric Villani. In this video they're joined by Melissa Leach, Peter Gluckman, and others from the Council's leadership and the wider science community to share some of the issues the Council will be working on.

The International Science Council was created following a merger of the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC).

Who do you answer to? What entity gives the ISC authority to affect policy?

I am really disappointed by the digital offerings of this channel. It really should be a showcase of premier consensus peer-reviewed scientific discourse presented for a non-specialist audience to build capacity in the global community. Please regularly upload quality content to enrich open discourse.
